About
The Chair is a portrait photography project rooted in simplicity, consistency, and human complexity. Each subject is photographed in my studio, seated on the same chair, under identical lighting conditions, and captured in timeless black and white. By removing variables like colour, elaborate sets, or changing environments, I focus purely on the essence of the individual.
Participants are encouraged to wear something true to themselves and may bring a single personal item that reflects their identity or story. Alongside the portrait, I conduct a short interview – conversational and intimate – asking questions that aim to reveal more than surface-level achievements. I explore themes like regret, challenge, and resilience, striving to uncover the moments that shape who we are. This exhibition is not about how we appear, but about who we are beneath the surface – a collective, authentic glimpse into humanity through a shared seat.
